The deportation of 917 Carinthian Slovenes on April 14 and 15, 1942, carried out by forces of the SS and the reserve police battalion 171, was the culmination of an escalating development that began with the Carinthian defensive struggle in 1919 and the subsequent referendum. The speaker describes the tensions and repression in the changing relations between the German-Carinthian majority and the Slovene minority, the after-effects of which continue to the present day.
