Strike! 40 Years of the Great British Miners' Strike 1984/85
An exhibition by the Institute for Historical Social Research (IHSF), Vienna, and the Martin Parr Foundation (MPF), Bristol.

The British Miners' Strike of 1984/85 made history. In the miners' settlements, an entire community fought fiercely for its existence - and lost. This largest strike in British history was also directed against the Conservative government under Margaret Thatcher. When it collapsed, the world was a different place. Not only in Great Britain. The defeat signaled a lasting shift in power. The neoliberal turnaround had been implemented. Nevertheless, the miners' strike remains an important anchor of identity for parts of British society to this day and has found its way into a large number of books, films and pop music.
